Joshua 13:1 (NIV) When Joshua was old and well advanced in years, the Lord said to him, “You are very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.
In the Conquest of Canaan: God’s Concern for His People and Joshua included
a. When Joshua was old and well advanced in years..you are very old – descriptions of shortage of time and decline of capabilities. So it ie best to take action while we are still young and able.
Ecc 12:1 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—
Ecc 12:2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain;
Ecc 12:3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim;
Ecc 12:4 when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades; when men rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint;
Ecc 12:5 when men are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags himself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then man goes to his eternal home and mourners go about the streets.
Ecc 12:6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well,
Ecc 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
b. In the work of Missions, there is no limit, except the time limit: all authority, all the world, all nations, in the name of the Father-of the Son-and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey ALL things.. I am with you ALWAYS,– UNTIL THE END OF THE AGE.
c. God’s remedy…
In the Last Days says God, I will pour out my Spirit.
Empower the church for bigger, more difficult task.
2. CONCERN FOR THE UNOCCUPIED TERRITORIES
`..and there are still very large areas of land…’
a. There are still very large areas of land.. to be dispossessed and possessed.
b. God has measured and identified the area that He wanted to give as an inheritance to Abraham and his children.
c. God wants to defeat their enemies (and the Canaanites that was to be judged for their crimes they have committed against God.. and it just so happened that Israel was Gods instruments to punish them.)
d. In the Work of Missions, at home and abroad, there are still Billions of people, and thousands of people groups and sectoral categories that needs to hear the Gospel. 30,000 Barangays, of the 40,000 do not have a church in the Philippines.
3. CONCERN FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE
`.. to be taken over.’
a. What has been accomplished did not lessen the size of unaccomplished. The need for war of invasion and occupation was still bigger and harder. The job was not yet done. In the Work of Missions, our job is not yet done.
b. Your goal versus Gods Goal.
Are you happy with your accomplishment , not thinking of overall work of God in the world?
c. Note: God is not working for us to reach our Goal. We are working for Him to reach His goals, purpose and intent.
Romans 11:36 (NIV) For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
BIBLICAL FRAMEWORK FOR SATURATION CHALLENGE:
1. The Scope of Salvation Plan
a. Includes all the ethnos/ and peoples of the world. That none should perish. That all may be saved. Preach the Gospel to all nations..
MAT 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
John 3:16 God so loved the world.
First General Council: to settle the issue of Who is included in God’s purchase of salvation?
Acts 15:8-11 (NIV) God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
2. The Priority of Lost and Unsaved
a. Leaving the 99 to find the lost one..
Luke 15:4,7 (NIV) “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
b. The saved exist for the unsaved. The Only enterprise that exist not for itself but for others.
1 John 2:2 (NIV) He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
3. The Commission of Territorial Conquest
Into all the world
Act 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Rev 11:15 …until the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Habakkuk 2:14 (NIV) For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
Matthew 6:9-10 (NIV) “This, then, is how you should pray: ” `Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
4. The Pioneering Philosophy
To go where Christ is still unknown, to preach to those who have not heard yet.
To occupy the vacancy left by neglect or disobedience of the Church.
Romans 15:20-21 (NIV) It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”
5. The Church Planter Jesus
The field is the world and the one planting the good seed is the Son of Man.
Matthew 13:36-39 (NIV) Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
CONCLUSION: Heaven is not narrow. It is not yet full. Life and eternity is wide… The way is the thing that is straight and narrow.
